DECODING GOETHE AND HIS AGE, VOL. 2

In this second volume, the author continues the proverbial "red thread" running through Goethe's oeuvre comprising his personal relationships—with men and boys. They provide the impetus and energy, the fabric and pattern for each and every one of his major works. His writing entails a continuous process of re-iterating, re-living, re-evaluating, re-contextualising his personal experiences, thereby eternalising it—and with it, himself. Goethe is the monument of a universal force he chiselled into words.

Matthias Goertz is Heinrich von Kleist Fellow at the European Graduate School's Division of Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought (PACT). His work as a thinker and writer involves exploring the authorial demons lurking behind his works and oeuvres of literature.
